I would fear that encouraging lawyers to use technology over meeting in person only presents plenty of room for extra misunderstandings and the feeling for clients that nobody really cares about their problems. It’s hard enough right now to get my lawyer on the phone, let alone get him in person and the more excuses he gets to avoid seeing me in person, the harder it’s going to get. I understand the pressure for time and to lower costs but when you tell someone like me (who has a small business to run) that my life will be easier if my lawyers all work from home and just collaborate over the internet to get my paperwork and my case files completed, I’m going to walk out the door and never come back. Please explain to me how encouraging lawyers to use even MORE technology makes them more efficient? I’m a strong believer in hard work that is NOT done too quickly (that’s how mistakes get made).

But isn’t it true that part of being a lawyer is being people-friendly and working WITH people IN PERSON?
